پاکستانی انٹی ٹیررزم کورٹس نے سابق وزیر اعظم عمران خان کی پارٹی پاکستان تحریک انصاف (پی ٹی آئی) کے دو سونے اراکین کو 10 سال کی سزا سنائی ہے جنہوں نے خان کی 2023 مئی میں گرفتاری کے بعد ہنگامی احتجاجوں اور فوجی اسٹالوں پر حملوں میں کردار ادا کیا تھا۔ مجرمان میں نامیات سیاستدان بھی ہیں، جیسے پنجاب اسمبلی کے اپوزیشن لیڈر ملک احمد خان بھچھھڑ اور ڈاکٹر یاسمین راشد شامل ہیں۔ پاکستان کی الیکشن کمیشن نے بھی کئی مجرمان شریک قانون سازوں کو عہدے سنبھالنے سے محروم کر دیا ہے۔ حکومت نے فیصلے کو انصاف کی فتح قرار دیا ہے، جبکہ پی ٹی آئی اور اس کے حامیوں نے انہیں سیاسی مقصد کے لئے متاثرہ اور جمہوریت کے لئے ایک ضرب قرار دیا ہے۔ پی ٹی آئی نے عدالتوں میں فیصلوں کا مخالفت کرنے کا عہد کیا ہے۔

This is honestly so disturbing but, sadly, not surprising. These harsh sentences just show how authoritarian the Pakistani government is getting, silencing any real opposition by calling them “terrorists.” It’s pretty clear this is less about justice and more about crushing Imran Khan’s party before the next election. No democracy should be locking up political opponents for a decade just because they challenge the status quo. If anything, this just proves how fragile Pakistan’s democracy really is right now.
Looks like another example of the state crushing dissent and using harsh prison sentences to scare anyone who dares to challenge their authority—so much for individual rights or real democracy.
